This weekend, not one but two notable films released at the box office and they are Kanguva and Maka. While Suriya’s Kanguva is an action-adventure in a different setting, Varun Tej’s Matka is a period-actioner.
Coming to the box office side of things, the latest updates are suggesting that Matka is a very slow starter. The opening day numbers are said to be on the lower side, and this could be due to the subdued pre-release buzz.

As for Kanguva, the film reportedly opened in the vicinity of Rs 4 crore gross which is again a very ordinary number for Suriya, considering the scale of the film.
Neither of the films could open to a largely positive response from the audience and this will have an adverse effect on the box office run over the weekend.

In their own rights, both the films had big investments associated with them, considering that they are upscaled projects. So it has to be seen how the forthcoming run over the weekend will turn out in the larger scheme of things.
