Tamil Nadu CM Stalin to boycott Governor RN Ravi’s ‘at home reception’ on August 15

A day after Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi vowed that he would ‘never ever’ sign the NEET exemption bill, State Chief Minister MK Stalin announced that he will boycott the governor’s Independence Day reception at the Raj Bhavan on August 15. 

“We are boycotting the At Home Reception to be hosted by Governor RN Ravi tomorrow to mark the Independence Day celebrations at Raj Bhavan,” announced CM MK Stalin.

Supreme Court issues alert about fake news falsely quoting CJI; Says legal action being taken

The Supreme Court released a statement warning the public about a social media post that falsely quotes the Chief Justice of India.

The bogus tweet features a picture of CJI DY Chandrachud with a fictitious remark urging people to resist the government.

The Public Relations Office of the Court, in its statement, said “It has come to the notice of the Supreme Court of India that a social media post (invoking the public to protest against authorities) using a file photograph and falsely quoting the Chief Justice India is being circulated. The post is fake, ill-intended and mischievous. No such post has been issued by the Chief Justice of India nor has he authorised any such post. Appropriate action is being taken in this regard with the law enforcement authorities”

Karnataka High Court stays FIR registered under Atrocities Act against Upendra

The Karnataka High Court has halted the FIR filed against actor Upendra under the Atrocities Act, which is a huge relief for him. The actor-turned-politician has petitioned the Supreme Court to have the FIR dismissed.

Upendra’s lawyer contended that because the actor employed an archaic adage, the Atrocities Act could not be enforced in this case.

Two FIRs were filed against the actor at two distinct Bengaluru police stations after he made inflammatory remarks on the Dalit community. The remark was made during a live engagement with ‘Prajaakeeya’ party activists on August 12.

Char Dham Yatra halted temporarily as heavy rains lash Uttarakhand

According to authorities, the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority has instructed that the current Char Dham Yatra be halted till Tuesday as torrential rains continue to pummelled the north eastern state.

They stated that the decision was made to guarantee the safety of pilgrims.

In an order issued on Monday, the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority said, “Char Dham Yatra stopped temporarily on the 14th and 15th August following disruption in the movement of traffic due to landslides after heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand.”
