The mid-size SUV segment is one of the hottest segments in the Indian automobile industry, with Honda Cars India being the next big manufacturer set to join the ever-growing space with the ‘Elevate‘, a new made-in-India SUV that will take on the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun.
We recently compared the Honda Elevate with its Korean rivals i.e. Creta and Seltos, and this time around, we will pit it against the Germans – the Kushaq and Taigun. Here is a detailed specifications comparison between the three SUVs, take a look –

Dimensions

The Honda Elevate is about 87 – 91 mm longer, 30 mm wider, and 38 mm taller than the Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun. The three SUVs have a similar wheelbase, separated only by 1 mm. While the Kushaq and Taigun have a ground clearance of 188 mm, the Elevate has a massive GC of 220 mm! As against the 385-litre boot space of the Germans, the Honda SUV gets 458 litres of space in the trunk.

Powertrains

New Honda Elevate SUV First Look Walkaround: Creta, Seltos rival | TOI Auto

Powering the Honda Elevate is a sole 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, sourced from the City. This engine puts out 121 PS of power and 145 Nm of torque, and can be had with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or an optional CVT, with standard FWD configuration.

The Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun are both offered with 1.0-litre three-pot and 1.5-litre four-cylinder TSI engines, with the former putting out 115 PS and 178 Nm, and the latter being rated at 150 PS/250 Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual (standard), a 6-speed AT (1.0L TSI) and a 7-speed DSG (1.5L TSI).

Price
Pricing for the Honda Elevate is yet to be announced. That said, the prices for the Skoda Kushaq start from Rs 11.59 lakh, while the Volkswagen Taigun is priced from Rs 11.62 lakh (ex-showroom). It will be interesting to see if Honda manages to undercut the Kushaq and Taigun, or if the Japanese manufacturer decides to offer its SUV at a premium over the two.

It should be noted that the equipment list on all three SUVs will be largely similar, however, the Honda Elevate will have an edge over the two German siblings with the Honda Sensing suite of ADAS safety features.
