Honda has finally unveiled its highly anticipated all-new Elevate SUV, marking its entry into the fiercely competitive midsize SUV segment. This segment is already crowded with popular models such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, MG Astor, Volkswagen Taigun, and Skoda Kushaq. In a few weeks, Citroen will also join the fray with the launch of their C3 Aircross.
Honda Elevate Vs competitors engine specs
Initially, the Honda Elevate will be introduced with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine, the same one found in the Honda City sedan. This i-VTEC engine delivers 121 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque in the Elevate and is offered with a choice of a 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT.

To provide a fair comparison, we will evaluate the Honda Elevate against the volume-driver petrol engines of its competitors. The Honda Elevate will directly compete with the 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated petrol engine variants of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and MG Astor.
It is worth noting that both the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos share the same 1.5-liter four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine, producing 115 PS of power and 144 Nm of torque. Similar to the Elevate, the Creta and Seltos offer the choice of a 6-speed manual or CVT gearbox.
Likewise, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder also share a 1.5-liter four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine. Both SUVs are available with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. This petrol engine generates 103 horsepower and 136 Nm of torque. The MG Astor, on the other hand, comes with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine delivering 110 PS of power and 144 Nm of torque, with options for a 5-speed manual or a CVT gearbox.
Based on specifications, it is evident that the Honda Elevate sets a new benchmark by offering the most powerful naturally-aspirated petrol engine in its category. However, it will also face competition from the Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq, which come with a 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 115 PS of power and 175 Nm of torque.
Honda is renowned for its refined and high-revving petrol engines, and the 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated i-VTEC engine in the Elevate is no exception. Besides setting a new benchmark in power and torque figures among naturally-aspirated petrol engines in its category, the Elevate is expected to excel in terms of refinement and reliability.
Honda Elevate Vs competitors: Features
In terms of features, the Elevate comes with a single-pane sunroof, distinguishing it from the Creta, Grand Vitara, Astor, and Urban Cruiser Hyryder, which offer panoramic sunroofs. While the Seltos currently offers a single-pane sunroof, the facelifted version expected in a few weeks will feature a panoramic sunroof.
The Honda Elevate also boasts a segment-first Lanewatch camera and Level-2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), enhancing its presence in the segment. Currently, the MG Astor is the only model in the segment to offer Level-2 ADAS.
Measuring 4312 mm in length, 1790 mm in width, and 1650 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2650 mm, the Honda Elevate’s dimensions are comparable to its competitors. The Hyundai Creta measures 4,300mm in length, 1,790mm in width, 1,635mm in height.
