NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister Atishi on Wednesday raised concerns over alleged large-scale voter deletions and additions in the New Delhi assembly constituency, putting forth the matter with a second letter to the chief election commissioner (CEC).
She requested an urgent meeting to address the issue, citing its critical impact on the upcoming Delhi assembly polls, now less than 27 days away.
In her letter, Atishi referenced her earlier correspondence dated January 5, 2025, in which she pointed out irregularities in the voter list and sought an immediate appointment with the CEC. However, she mentioned that her office only received a response from Lalit Mittal, deputy chief electoral officer of Delhi, stating that the matter was being reviewed locally.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the response, Atishi said that the issue required the direct attention of the CEC as it exceeded the jurisdiction of the local electoral office.
“This matter should be considered with highest priority,” Delhi CM said.
“Delhi is the only state going to polls during this time, and the entire country and its media will closely follow the elections and its processes. We place our trust in the Election Commission of India to uphold the principles of free and fair elections,” Atishi wrote in her letter.
The chief minister reiterated her request for an immediate meeting with the CEC to ensure that the upcoming elections are conducted transparently and without any discrepancies in the voter list.
