Even though it is not that big of a deal, the fact that the new iPhone 15 is sporting a USB-C port is something that a lot of people are talking about. This is the first time in over ten years that Apple has decided to use a non-proprietary connector, and that is something that a lot of us thought would not happen. While many of us would not bat an eye and continue our usage as we would, there are some curious minds who are wondering what would happen if you connect a new iPhone to an Android using a USB-C to USB-C cable.

Folks over at PetaPixel have done just that as they have connected the iPhone 15 to an Android device using a USB-C cable to see what happens. The publication posted a YouTube Short showing what happens when you connect both devices using a USB-C cable. You can look at the Short below, and we will talk in detail about what is happening in the video.
As you can see in the video above, the moment both iPhone 15 and Android devices are connected, both devices do a handshake, and the Android starts charging immediately from the iPhone. I first assumed that this behavior would happen because the Android device has a lower battery than the iPhone, but it actually doesn’t work like that. Upon reconnecting the cable, you see that the iPhone is the device that starts drawing power from the Android device.
This phenomenon only shows that the connection between an iPhone 15 and an Android device will be erratic at best. There is a chance that this could change in the future. In an ideal condition, the way it should work is that the device with a lower battery should start getting power from the device with a higher battery, but that is not happening in this case. Aside from this, connecting the two phones enables no special operations of any sort, and you cannot transfer files between devices or access anything else, so it is safe to say that you have nothing to worry about.
Another thing to note here is that the USB-C on the new iPhone 15 is capable of outputting just 4.5W, which is not enough to charge a modern phone quickly, considering how the battery capacities are through the roof. On the other hand, you can charge your accessories like the Apple Watch or AirPods or anything that does not require that much power in the first place.
