India’s much-awaited World Cup 2023 bout against Australia might well fall under rain threat on October 8. The contest, marking the opening fixtures for both sides this tournament, will be played out at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium.

With constant rainfall pouring in the city over the past few days, one can expect a curtailed-game or even a complete washout in Chennai.

India vs Australia match under rain threat, Harsha Bhogle confirms

The prevailing bad weather conditions in Chennai might slightly, or completely, disrupt India’s much-anticipated World Cup 2023 clash against Australia on October 8. Tickets have already been sold out for the blockbuster match, even though certain weather predictions are indicating slightly unfavorable conditions on offer at the time of the contest.

Renowned cricket personality Harsha Bhogle himself recently confirmed the overwhelming presence of rainfall in the city. One of the commentators lined-up for the 2023 World Cup, Bhogle took to X (formerly Twitter) and shared a disheartening update for fans eagerly waiting for a potential India vs Australia thriller. He wrote:

    “Bucketing down in Chennai….Very dark.”

Regardless, India’s opening World Cup 2023 match against Australia is slated to commence at 2:00 PM IST. Prior to the ongoing cricketing carnival, both India and Australia came into collision during a three-match pre-World Cup ODI series with the former playing hosts to Pat Cummins and co.

While Team India emerged victorious in the first two matches to seal the series under KL Rahul, the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the dead-rubber ended up benefitting the visitors as they clinched a 66-run win in Rajkot.

The two white-ball titans share an elite history at World Cup events. Their upcoming tussle marks their 13th meeting at an ODI World Cup, with Australia leading the race at the grandest stage by 8-4 after the first 12 matches.
