    Hasaranga, Miller, Hales and Rajapaksa among star players picked in PSL draft

    Wanindu Hasaranga, David Miller, Alex Hales and Bhanuka Rajapaksa were among several star players picked during the PSL draft held on Thursday (December 15) ahead of the eighth edition of the T20 league. Pacer Naseem Shah and batter Fakhar Zaman were the two Pakistan players roped in during the Platinum round while Imran Tahir was also among the top picks.

    Lahore Qalandars, who had the first pick in the Platinum round, opted for Zaman, Quetta Gladiators chose Hasaranga while Miller went to Multan Sultans. Karachi Kings roped in Matthew Wade, Islamabad United opted for Hales while Peshawar Zalmi, who were the last in the draft order for the first round, chose Rajapaksa.

    In the second round of Platinum picks, the Gladiators held on to their pacer Naseem, Zalmi opted for Rovman Powell and the Kings went for veteran legspinner Tahir. United opted for Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz while the Sultans chose Josh Little. Qalandars, having already retained two Platinum players before the draft, weren’t allowed a pick in this round.

    In the first round of Diamond picks, United opted for Fazalhaq Farooqi, Qalandars roped in Hussain Talat while Mujeeb ur Rahman was picked up by Zalmi. The Gladiators bagged the services of Odean Smith while the Kings, who had two picks available in this round, got hold of James Vince and James Fuller. Having already retained three Diamond category players, the Sultans could not participate in this round.

    Zalmi, who had two Gold category picks available, opted for Danish Aziz and Arshad Iqbal while the Gladiators picked Ahsan Ali. Qalandars too had two picks in this round and they chose the in-form Sikandar Raza along with Liam Dawson. The Sultans bagged Akeal Hosein while the Kings roped in Andrew Tye. United, having retained three players in the Gold bracket, couldn’t pick any in this round.

    The Sultans, who hadn’t retained any player in the Silver category, bagged Usama Mir, Usman Khan, Sameen Gul, Anwar Ali and Mohammad Sarwar Afridi. United had three Silver picks available and they went for Abrar Ahmed, Sohaib Maqsood and Rumman Raees. Saim Ayub and Usman Qadir were roped in by Zalmi while the Qalandars opted for Dilbar Hussain, Mirza Tahir Baig and Ahmed Daniyal. The Gladiators chose Umaid Asif and Mohammad Zahid. The Kings, meanwhile, got hold of Tayyab Tahir and Mohammad Akhlaq.

    Some of the big international names were roped in during the Supplementary round. Zalmi bagged Jimmy Neesham, the Sultans brought in Adil Rashid while Martin Guptill went to the Gladiators. The Qalandars got Jordan Cox while Moeen Ali went to the United. In Round 2 of the Supplementary picks, the Gladiators opted for Omair Bin Yousuf while the Kings got Tabraiz Shamsi and Muhammad Umar. Jalat Khan was roped in by the Qalandars, Arafat Minhas by the Sultans while United got Mubasir Khan.
