Even though reports suggested that Hansi Flick and FC Barcelona see Frenkie de Jong as an ‘untouchable’, the Dutchman’s future at the club continues to remain uncertain.

The Netherlands international’s wages are a concern for the Blaugrana while the fact that he has interest from several clubs and would fetch a big fee also make him an attractive prospect for sale.

Flick’s condition to sell De Jong

Now, SPORT reports that new manager Hansi Flick has Frenkie de Jong in his plans for Barcelona next season.

However, it is also true that, if a significant offer were to arrive for him, De Jong would have every chance of changing sceneries after five seasons in the Barça discipline.

It is clear that Flick would have the former AFC Ajax man in his plans and is a player that the German tactician likes very much. If De Jong stays, he would be an undisputed starter under the new coach.

However, at the same time, Flick is also aware of Barça’s financial situation and would not stand in the way of the club if they decide to sell De Jong in case a very good offer arrives.

But the 59-year-old manager would set a condition in that scenario – that Barcelona sign a top replacement.

That is to say, Flick would seek a player of a similar level so as not to weaken the squad and a key position in the manager’s plans, considering that he usually plays with a double pivot in the centre of the pitch.

Between the sporting director, Deco, and Flick himself, they are already discussing some names that would fit the bill if Barça were to part with the Dutchman.

PSG have cooled their interest in De Jong, but other teams like Manchester United and Bayern Munich remain major admirers. So, it remains to be seen how things develop in the weeks to come.
