An H1B aspirant was allegedly drugged, raped, and robbed, leaving her in despair with a broken system. But instead of filing an official complaint, convinced the police won’t do anything, her passport being stolen just before the H1B lottery is a bigger problem for her.

The brave victim shared her experience on social media. However, she avoided focusing on the harrowing details and rather asked for suggestions and her options for the H-1B lottery this year.

The tragic incident allegedly took place on March 7, the day the H1B lottery opened, in Colombia. Being fed up with the unresponsive and negligent police, she didn’t file any complaints, avoiding losing any time in a legal battle.

However, the US immigration system is just as brutal. As the H1B deadline of March 24 is almost here, now she is wondering what her options are after her passport got stolen.

An emergency passport will arrive too late, leaving her only with a scanned copy of the original one. Netizens suggested she should apply with her old passport details and submit updates if selected.

Others urged her to prioritize her healing. But that’s the harsh reality— when your future rides on a visa lottery, even trauma takes a back seat.

Even at her most traumatic incident, the woman is constantly worried about getting her H1B visa, just so she can have a shot at a better life in the US. This isn’t just a personal tragedy but it highlights what toll the cruel system takes on people.
