A woman who switched from H1B to H4 with a valid EAD recently encountered an unexpected visa challenge. After applying for a dropbox appointment, she received a 221(g) notice, which requires her to attend an in-person interview at the Chennai consulate.
This development is part of the updated interview waiver rules, which now exclude certain visa categories from automatic dropbox eligibility. The applicant can schedule her interview at the Chennai consulate on or after after March 14, but this sudden change raises concerns for others in similar situations.
