New Delhi: You will be surprised to know this but it is true, Dahaad actor Gulshan Devaiah has not consumed more than one meal in a day since 2018. While talking about this he said, “I enjoy this eating method. One advantage is the freedom to eat what I like without strictly dieting since portion control is automatic. However, a downside is that limiting food variety can lead to nutritional gaps, resulting in vitamin deficiencies, which I experience.” So, you may have some vitamin deficiencies, and I do. My B12 and D3 are something that gets a bit low. So, I have to supplement those through prescription-based medicines. I have been doing this since 2018, Deviah informed me.

Even when he is on vacation or goes back to his hometown in Bengaluru he tries and only sticks to plan and diet restrictions. OMAD is a great tool if your main goal is to lose body fat. However, it can be challenging to gain muscle while on OMAD as the body is under a catabolic phase which means it’s breaking down during this period. For someone who is looking to gain muscle, it is important to be in an anabolic stage.

Benefits of weight loss with OMAD Diet

Manish Suhas Dalvi, Founder, of SuperEvovle and Sports Nutritionist shares, “As we are eating less, we are eating lesser calories which leads to calorie deficit and hence weight loss. Also, OMAD can improve insulin sensitivity which also promotes fat burning due to extended periods of fasting.” For those who are fit and can stay without consuming many calories, it is a beneficial diet to follow.

    Risks associated with OMAD Diet

People with medical conditions such as diabetes, and eating disorders should consult a doctor and do the required tests before they start with OMAD.

Individuals who are following such a diet can also face the issues of Nutritional deficiency as it is difficult to get all the nutrients from a single meal. Also, People might overeat because of the increased hunger and they might choose to eat junk over whole food while being on OMAD.

Thus, following the OMAD diet can be beneficial to those who are not prone to many diseases and can stay hungry for a longer duration only on fewer calories. However, people with diseases should avoid such diets and must follow a maintained balance of nutrients to keep the body working.
