The outcomes of the Greeshma and RG Kar murder cases couldn’t be more different. One case delivered justice, while the other left many feeling that justice was denied.
The public is now questioning how political influence played a role in the RG Kar case, with the Bengal government being accused of protecting the criminal.

In the Greeshma case, where she poisoned her boyfriend Sharon Raj, the court didn’t hesitate. She was sentenced to death by Kerala court for her premeditated crime, backed by clear evidence, including Sharon’s dying declaration.
It seemed like a simple case of justice being served, showing that the legal system can still hold people accountable for their actions.

But the RG Kar case tells a different story. The brutal murder and rape of a doctor by Sanjay Roy who had a history of violence has sparked outrage. Despite the severity of the crime, many believe the punishment was far too lenient. Letting the man off with a life sentence and a fine of a laughable 50,000 rupees.
The involvement of local politicians in this case has led many to suspect that political influence played a role in reducing the sentence. It’s hard to ignore the growing belief that the Bengal government is protecting the criminal, undermining the judicial process.

The disappointment is especially strong among doctors, who have been protesting in response to this leniency. For them, the RG Kar case is a slap in the face. The fact that such a brutal crime was treated so lightly is a major blow to their sense of security and trust in the law.
While the Greeshma case showed that justice can be swift and fair, the RG Kar case proves that political interference can corrupt the system. The public now feels that when justice is not served, it doesn’t just fail the victim, but it damages the very foundation of trust in the law.
