What Is the Film About?
Gorre Puranam, as the title suggests, is about a Goat that quite literally creates chaos between Muslims and Hindus.
How a Goat from a small village in Yellaram becomes a sensation in Hyderabad City. The connection of the Gorre with Ravi (Suhas) and the conclusion is the movie’s basic plot.
Performances
Suhas has a short and simple role with an emotional backstory in the movie. He does well in his usual style and shines in the key moment during a court sequence where he gets to highlight the movie’s point.
Apart from the message delivery, there is nothing much to talk about performance-wise. Everything is done adequately in the given time.
Analysis
Bobby directs Gorre Puranam. It is basically about a Goat and what happens when it escapes from a Muslim family that is about to sacrifice it for the Bakrid festival.
The movie opens on a mildly interesting note that also, in hindsight, adds to the predictability. An accident brings a village into the limelight, and later, the focus shifts to the goat. The voiceover adds to some fun, but nothing’s happening otherwise.
The proceedings move to Hyderabad City, and immediately, we know how the narrative is going to shape up with further introduction of a few characters. It’s the sheer predictable nature of the script and lack of gripping moments that hurt the tale.
The long chase and the eventual clash with the media circus happening around the goat all lack energy and interest. It just feels like a series of scenes joined together with no punch or purpose. One just goes with the flow to see if there’s anything redeeming in store.
The hero arrives at that moment of restlessness and keeps one looking forward to the second hour.
With the hero’s entry, there is certainly a curiosity, but nothing happens content-wise to raise the stakes or the expectations. Things just go on in a boring manner. The flashback and other emotional connections don’t work.
The simple premise lacking any depth is the basic culprit more than anything. There is a message at the end, and it is decent, but it’s just too small and too late to have any impact or recollection value.
Overall, the point they’ve taken and the cast throughout fail miserably to create even the slightest interest. And if one is still patient enough to sit through, they will feel utterly drained, like they’ve wasted their time watching ‘Sodhi Putnam’ by the end.
Performances by Others Actors
There are a few notable faces like Raghu Karumanchi, Posani Krishna Murali and others in supporting parts, but they don’t have anything worthy to do. Apart from them, none have a role to speak of, even though many faces are visible throughout.
Music and Other Departments?
Pawan Ch’s music is as forgettable as the narrative. The background score has some promise in parts, but they are too small bits to register. The cinematography is poor. The editing is decent, but the lack of substance makes the small runtime feel very lengthy. It’s like the editor tries his best to extend the narrative by making sense of the chaos. The wiring is banal and ineffective.
