New Delhi:
The 80th Golden Globes kicked off Hollywood’s award season and it was a biggie. SS Rajamouli’s RRR lived up to the ‘rise and roar’ in its name by winning one of its two nominations – Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu. Steven Spielberg’s film The Fabelmans won two of the biggest awards of the show – Best Film (Drama) and Best Director. The Banshees Of Inisherin triumphed as well with Best Film (Musical/Comedy), Best Film Actor (Musical/Comedy) for Colin Farrell and Best Screenplay. Everything Everywhere All At Once scored two thrilling wins – Best Film Actress (Musical/Comedy) for the iconic Michelle Yeoh and Best Supporting Actor (Film) for Ke Huy Quan.
Abbott Elementary and The White Lotus were big winners in the television categories with multiple wins. Abbott Elementary won Best TV Series (Musical/Comedy) as well as acting awards for Quinta Brunson and Tyler James Williams. The White Lotus won Best Limited/Anthology Series or TV Film with an acting award for fan favourite Jennifer Coolidge.
Several winners failed to attend the Golden Globes and collect their awards in person – Cate Blanchett (Best Film Actress – Drama), Zendaya (Best TV Actress – Drama), Amanda Seyfried (Best Actress – Limited/Anthology Series or TV Film) and Kevin Costner (Best TV Actor – Drama).
The Golden Globes were held in Los Angeles with comedian Jerrod Carmichael as host. The award show spent a year in the wilderness after grave allegations of racism and misconduct in their voting processes. In 2022, the Golden Globes were boycotted by NBC, which airs the awards ceremony, as well as big Hollywood stars including Tom Cruise who returned his three Globes.
