Vijay GOAT

Thalapathy Vijay’s highly anticipated film, The Greatest Of All Time (GOAT), set for release On September 5, aims to make a big splash at the Indian box office.

Expected to be the first major Kollywood opener of 2024, the film comes at a time when Tamil cinema has not delivered even a single big blockbuster this year like last year such as Jailer and Leo. They have set high benchmarks that GOAT is poised to challenge.

GOAT is anticipated to be one of Vijay’s final two films before he fully transitions into politics, adding to the excitement and hype.

Fans are hopeful that the film will achieve a record-breaking opening, potentially surpassing Leo, which currently holds the title for the biggest Kollywood opener with a gross collection of 75 crores in India.

However, there is a notable hurdle in Tamil Nadu—the stronghold of Thalapathy Vijay. Unlike in other regions and overseas where special early morning shows of GOAT will start as early as 4 AM., Tamil Nadu will only have regular shows starting from 7 AM or 8 AM.

Special shows typically drive up ticket prices and can significantly boost initial earnings. The absence of these shows in Vijay’s home state could mean a substantial loss in potential revenue.

Additionally, the hype surrounding GOAT isn’t on par with Leo. The buzz for Leo was amplified by Lokesh Kanagaraj’s brand value and Anirudh’s music, whereas GOAT’s music has not generated the same level of excitement. Furthermore, Leo enjoyed tremendous hype in states like Telangana, Andhra, and Kerala, which is currently lacking for GOAT.

The film’s success will ultimately depend on how well it performs despite these limitations.
