After a long gap of more than 20 years, Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II has finally arrived at the theatres. The film has already received a positive response all around the world after its release on Friday, November 15.
Unfortunately, the box office numbers are not up to the mark considering the popularity of the previous film among the audience. It now adds another film to the list of Viacom & Paramount Pictures with the lowest opening.

Notably, the production company’s other film, The Quiet Place: Day One also failed to hit the expected mark this year, with collections of only Rs. 45 lacs on the first day. Coming back to Gladiator II, it has recorded an opening of between Rs. 1.70 to Rs. 1.75 crores.
Viacom and Paramount released multiple films over the last two years, including sequels to Scream and Transformers. However, none of them have managed to attract the audience.

The only Hollywood film that was somehow able to maintain a long run in India was Deadpool & Wolverine. It opened to around 20 crores on the first day and the same number continued throughout the week.
The above-mentioned example has once again proved that the only franchises that can pull audiences to the big screen are Marvel and DC. While other projects have the same potential, their popularity is restricted to television.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, Hollywood films are struggling to leave an impression on the Indian audience. The major reason has been the ticket prices and to some extent, underwhelming storylines.
It is the right time for Hollywood to understand that they need to focus more on quality instead of quantity if they are willing to impress Indian viewers.
