Actress Taapsee Pannu has recently come into the limelight by highlighting the challenges women face in Bollywood, highlighting major issues like casting bias and pay disparity.

Taapsee played the role of the female lead in Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dunki’, which turned out to be a success, though not as big as ‘Pathaan’ or ‘Jawan’.
The actress revealed that she did not receive a substantial paycheck despite the film being a clear success. Dunki is Taapsee’s highest-grossing film and it might remain so, marking a significant milestone in her career.

Taapsee accused the male actors of influencing the casting of female leads to suit their own personal agendas in almost 75% of cases.
She said that unless the director has a cult following of their own, it is the male actors who decide which female lead to cast so that it does not overshadow them in the film.

She further stated that this kind of bias extends well beyond casting, as male leads often decide what brand endorsement will feature their female co-stars. She said that while it frustrated her initially, she has learnt to live with it.
Taapsee’s statements resonated with many people on social media, who acknowledged the massive pay disparity in the Indian Film Industry, praising her for her performance in films like Pink, Thappad, and Shabaash Mithu.
The actress has hoped that her statements on this sensitive issue will ignite conversations about equality and mutual respect for female actors.
