Five absconding accused in SDPI leader Shan murder case nabbed

The Mannancherry police have nabbed five absconding Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) workers accused in the murder of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) leader K.S. Shan in Alappuzha.

Officials said that Vishnu of Komalapuram, Abhimanyu of Mararikulam, Sanand of Ponnad, Athul of Mannanchery and Dhaneesh of South Aryad had been taken into custody from Palani in Tamil Nadu. They went into hiding after Kerala High Court, last month, cancelled their bails granted by the Alappuzha Additional Session Court. “Their arrest will be recorded soon and they will be produced before a local court on Saturday,” said an official.

Shan, 38, was attacked allegedly by RSS activists at Kuppezham Junction at Mannancherry in Alappuzha around 7.30 p.m. on December 18, 2021. He succumbed to his injuries around 11.30 p.m. The SDPI leader was heading home on his motorcycle when a car rear-ended the two-wheeler. A group of persons came out of the car and attacked him with iron rods and other weapons.
