The Association of Medical Consultants Mumbai has raised concerns over how Niva Bupa Insurance approved a cashless claim of ₹25 lakh for Saif’s treatment at Lilavati Hospital within hours.

The insurance company reportedly waived the standard requirement of an FIR for a medicolegal case. Additionally, the final hospital bill of ₹36 lakh was sanctioned without question.
People on social media argue that this is a stark departure from the treatment regular policyholders receive, where claims often face stringent scrutiny and are capped under “reasonable and customary charges.”
The association has written to IRDAI, questioning why such exceptional privileges were extended to a celebrity.
If it were a regular person, the insurance company would have carefully checked the charges and likely reduced or rejected the claim.
IRDAI needs to explain why Niva Bupa gave special treatment to a celebrity like Saif Ali Khan, while normal people face so many difficulties getting their claims approved.
