The Independent Expert Working Group meeting on Monday.

The Independent Expert Working Group meeting on Monday.

The Independent Expert Working Group, constituted by the State government to study the caste survey, has developed an analytical framework drawing on global and Indian sociological and econometric research to start analysing the data of the Socio, Economic, Educational, Employment, Political and Caste survey.

The Group had cautioned the State government, political leaders and the media against selectively interpreting the SEEEPC survey data until it completes thorough and detailed review of the dataset and considers it ready for interpretation. The Group which met here on Monday under the chairmanship of Justice B. Sudarshan Reddy undertook a comprehensive review of the methodology used in the approach with which the survey was conducted. It had unanimously commended that rigorous methodology used in the SEEEPC survey.

IT principal secretary Jayesh Ranjan and his team made presentation on the use of artificial intelligence tools to validate, verify and enable a natural language interface for querying and analysing the SEEEPC dataset. The process would be carried out without sharing the data with external software or organisations and to ensure that it would remain securely on the State servers within the government.

The first of its kind survey, holds potential to significantly influence both Telangana and the nation in shaping a new paradigm of social justice, according to a press release. It was therefore imperative that rigorous standards and due process were followed in the use and interpretation of the survey data.

Expert group vice-chairman Kancha Ilaiah, convenor Praveen Chakravarthy, Professors Shanta Sinha, Sukhdeo Thorat and Himanshu attended the meeting. Group’s special invitees Professor Thomas Piketty and Professor Jean Dreze sent their views by email prior to the meeting. The group would reconvene on April 26.
