Embarrassing moment college football player faceplants while carrying the American flag

Boise State player Roger Carreon suffered an embarrassing moment before their game against Penn State after faceplanting while running out with the American flag.

After being elected as one of two Broncos flagbearers for the Fiesta Bowl, Carreon went viral for all the wrong reasons when he lost his footing on the field at State Farm Stadium in Arizona.

ESPN cameras captured the offensive lineman falling straight onto his front after appearing to get his left foot stuck awkwardly in the ground, with two teammates in front left blissfully unaware of his mishap.

Fortunately Carreon didn’t suffer an injury despite seemingly twisting his ankle, meaning he was still able to line up for his school on New Year’s Eve.

And fans certainly saw the funny side on social media.

One wrote: ‘Dude kicked his own foot, damn!’

‘That’s bad juju for the game,’ said another.

A third joked: ‘He was so excited to carry Old Glory that he tripped himself.’

While a fourth simply put: ‘The internet lives forever!’.

As one fan predicted, Carreon’s unfortunate blunder did indeed forebode a miserable evening for Boise State.

Drew Allar threw three touchdown passes as Penn State ran out 31-14 winners on the night, earning themselves a spot in the College Football Playoff semifinals.

They will play No. 2 Georgia or No. 3 Notre Dame in the January 9 Orange Bowl.
