As Elon Musk continued lobbying against the bipartisan congressional budget negotiations, a CNN panel called him a spreader of fake news with no knowledge of how the government works. CNN’s Jim Acosta and Brian Stelter debated that Elon Musk relies on people on X to tell him what’s going on as they are the media now. “That really leaves a lot to be desired,” they said. Elon Musk reacted to that repeating: You are the media now.
Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy were the two main forces behind the attempt to kill the bill that would fund the government through March. President-elect Donald Trump, Vice-President elect JD Vance too issued a statement against the bill but Elon Musk’s influence in government matters was what riled the Democrats and some Republicans too.
Vivek Ramaswamy said he read the lengthy bill which could have been shorter but then people would have read it and protested it. Ramaswamy said people should call their reps and inform them what they feel about the spending bill which has a provision for an increase in the salary of Congress members.
Resistance came from the Republicans too as Texas Republican Rep Dan Crenshaw wrote on X, “I love you Elon but you need to take 5 seconds to check your sources before highlighting bottom feeders looking for clicks.”
Elon Musk as Speaker?
As Speaker Mike Johnson who negotiated the spending deal came under fire from the Republicans, those who were enthusiastic about Elon Musk’s new role in the government pushed his name as the Speaker as well. Kentucky Republican Senator Rand Paul said the Speaker of the House need not be a member of Congress. “Nothing would disrupt the swamp more than electing Elon Musk . . . think about it . . . nothing’s impossible. (not to mention the joy at seeing the collective establishment, aka ‘uniparty,’ lose their ever-lovin’ minds),” Rand Paul wrote.
Elon Musk was called ‘President Musk‘ and Donald Trump ‘Vice President Trump’ as Elon Musk took the lead in blocking the spending deal. If the bill is not passed, there will be a government shutdown.
