Election Commission of India Should Prosecute Vijaysai Reddy

The reaction of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and YSRCP leaders to the Haryana election results, as well as those in Jammu and Kashmir, has drawn public attention. While the BJP secured a majority in Haryana, leading to its third consecutive term, the NC-Congress alliance won the necessary seats to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir.

Interestingly, while YSRCP leaders, including Vijay Sai Reddy, have expressed doubts about the EVMs in Haryana—similar to previous complaints regarding EVM manipulation during the 2024 AP elections—they have remained silent about the results in Jammu and Kashmir.

YS Jagan has been vocal about his preference for a return to the paper ballot system in India’s electoral process. His concerns echo the sentiment of many opposition parties across the country who believe that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) could be prone to manipulation.

Vijay Sai Reddy, taking the issue further, used social media (X) to allege that BJP and TDP manipulated EVMs during the election counting process in Andhra Pradesh. He also claimed that former CM Chandrababu Naidu used the Tirumala laddu adulteration controversy as a diversion from the alleged Form-20 manipulation by the Election Commission.

Form-20 is a crucial document that discloses the number of votes polled booth-wise, and allegations of tampering with this form are significant. However, YSRCP leaders have faced criticism for not raising concerns about Form-20 earlier. It has become a point of debate, with many asking why YSRCP leaders remained silent on the issue during or shortly after the elections if they had concerns.

It is the responsibility of the Election Commission of India (ECI) to respond to allegations such as those made by Vijay Sai Reddy, especially since they come from a Rajya Sabha member. Without a clear response from the ECI, there is a risk that these unverified claims might create doubt in the public’s mind about the fairness of the electoral process. An official clarification would help maintain trust in the electoral system, especially when high-profile leaders are raising such serious allegations.
