The major headline is about the Politics of the United States after the Watergate scam under the title ‘ఎట్టకేలకు నిక్సన్‌ నిష్క్రమణ’.

There are also follow-up stories about Russia’s reaction and a short story about the future of Nixon. There is also a small column about the changes in Canada Cabinet and about the Watergate.

In complete contrast, two hyper-local stories also figured on Eenadu’s Mainpage.

‘ఆముదాలవలస చెక్కర ఫ్యాక్టరీ సీజనల్ కార్మికుల ఇబ్బందులు’ and ‘కిరాణా దుఖాణాలు మూసివేతకు నిర్ణయం’ were published indicating that Eenadu is focused on issues pertaining to the common people. Newspapers those days used to ignore such issues. Eenadu started making the difference there.

It should also be noted that the item ‘ఆముదాలవలస చెక్కర ఫ్యాక్టరీ సీజనల్ కార్మికుల ఇబ్బందులు’ got as prominence as Nixon’s resignation sending a message that a hyper-local issue is as important as an international issue for them.

There is a cartoon in which a husband is saying to his wife ‘రూపాయి విలువ 20 పైసలట. లెక్కగట్టి మరీ రూపాయికి ఈ తోటకూర కొమ్మ ఇచ్చింది కూరలమ్మ’. This is to grab the attention of the middle class immediately. The ‘కొసమెరుపు’ cartoon continued for fifty years and is still very popular even today.

And then, there is an advertisement too on the Homepage. Carrying an advertisement right on day one is a strategy to attract potential advertisers.

The main page of the first edition is an indication of the extensive R&D – Ramoji Rao and his team do. It started on Day 1 and continued till date.

Eenadu reportedly started by printing 4,500 copies on the first day. During the initial days, free copies used to be distributed to everyone so as to introduce themselves and also inculcate reading habits in the people. The public realized the quality and later became subscribers.

And it remained as the Most Circulated Newspaper in Telugu for many years.
