The government’s introduction of Sahkar Taxi, a cooperative-based cab service, has been met with widespread approval from cab and auto drivers across the city.
Unlike private aggregators like Ola and Uber, which take a significant commission from drivers’ earnings, this government-backed initiative promises 100% earnings to the drivers, eliminating middlemen.

Many drivers, who have long struggled with high commission cuts and dynamic pricing, see this as a much-needed relief.
Bhupendra Yadav, a cab driver in NCR, shared his frustration, stating that despite working long hours, most of his income goes to the company. “If we get the full fare, our earnings will be enough to sustain our families,” he said.

Auto-rickshaw drivers also believe that Sahkar Taxi could bring fairness to the ride-hailing industry. Vijay, an autorickshaw driver, expressed optimism, saying, “Private companies only care about profits, but if the government is behind this, it might actually benefit us.”
Even though the app is still in its early stages, many drivers have already expressed their willingness to switch once it becomes operational.

Mohan, another cab driver, emphasized the trust factor, saying, “Had this been a private app, we would have been skeptical. But since the government is launching it, we believe it will be fair.”
If implemented effectively, Sahkar Taxi could disrupt the dominance of private aggregators and reshape the ride-hailing industry in Delhi-NCR. The success of this model will ultimately depend on its execution and how well it competes with the established giants.
