‘Dr Bhaskar Das had a burning desire to learn and evolve’

I felt so sad on learning about Bhaskar Das’s passing away as whoever knows Bhaskar will agree that it is a great loss for the entire media and entertainment industry. He will always be fondly remembered and missed by anyone who came in touch with him even once because he had this infectious twinkle in his eyes which reflected his curiosity to learn about the other individual and that always added value to any interaction one would have with him.
When I was with The Times of India, Bhaskar was heading the Ahmedabad region, and I remember so very well that when he was transferred to Mumbai to lead the response department, he adapted so well, though by way of work cultural, Mumbai so very was different than Gujarat.

Bhaskar’s ability to adapt and his burning desire to learn and evolve constantly as a leader is something remarkable and inspiring. He could easily fine-tune his approach to the Mumbai market, which was much more evolved, and proved himself to be a great performing leader.
I remember once he had taken my guidance in terms of improving his personal brand and when I had asked him for sharing with me how he defined his own personal brand. It was one of the clearest description I have come across of any leader where the crux of how he described himself was that of a leader who is constantly evolving, and that aspect is something which was always impressive and outstanding about him.
His energy levels and vibrancy backed by curiosity were always like a child, and he kept it alive throughout his life for which he will always be remembered and keep inspiring us. I remember once meeting him when he was heading the Zee TV Network revenue function and the kind of energy and passion he reflected for making sales calls along with the teams at that stage of his career was something truly remarkable.
I think he was one of the best mentors and teachers in the industry one could get in grooming teams on consultative selling. His ability to understand the client’s needs and integrate them with strategic inputs and align them with the media space was outstanding. He could talk on a subject for hours, because he had such deep insights and ability to look beyond the obvious. He was a leader who would inspire and always lead teams from the front.
I remember in 1997 I had invited Bhaskar and his wife home and found him so very humble, and down-to-earth as a human being which made him so relatable. Once as a concerned father he had asked me to guide his son in taking a career decision because he wanted objective analysis of the situation.
We pray to God for his soul to rest in peace and may God give the strength to the family to bear up with this irreplaceable loss. Bhaskar has left behind a legacy for so many media professionals who have picked up huge learning from him and he will continue to live through his teachings and values that make him who he truly was – an adaptable visionary leader.
