Donald Trump‘s former attorney Joe Tacopina has his eyes set on English League Two club Tranmere Rovers F.C., The Athletic is reporting.

The 58-year-old lawyer, media personality, and sports executive has been leading a consortium of potential investors in talks with current Rovers ownership. The proposed takeover only needs regulatory approval from the English Football League to be completed, according to The Athletic.

Tacopina did not immediately respond to DailyMail.com’s request for comment on Friday night.

Tranmere, a club based across the River Mersey from Liverpool in northwest England, has been owned by former Football Association chief executive Mark Palios since 2014.

Tacopina made a name for himself in the US by defending everyone from Trump to Michael Jackson to Alex Rodriguez. He ultimately left Trump’s legal team in January after representing the former President in the hush money case involving adult film actress Stormy Daniels and author E. Jean Carroll’s sexual assault lawsuit.

The Athletic likened his potential takeover of a fourth-division club to Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney‘s purchase and revitalization of Wrexham.

The son of Italian immigrants, Tacopina has previously held minority stakes in Roma and Bologna and now owns SPAL, a club in Italy’s Serie C.

Tacopina makes regular media appearances to give his legal perspective on cable news networks, including Fox News, CNN and Newsmax.

Founded in 1884, Tranmere Rovers FC is currently near the bottom of the EFL League Two table. Current manager Nigel Adkins is well known to fans after previous stints with Charlton Athletic, Hull City, Sheffield United, Reading and Southampton.

Other famous names in club history include former Chelsea and Everton star Pat Nevin as well as Jon Aldrige, the record-breaking striker who ranks sixth in English football history with 330 goals.
