Ali Abbas Zafar’s possible comeback to Yash Raj Films (YRF) has caused a major controversy, particularly with rumour he could be behind either Pathaan 2 or Dhoom 4.
Whereas Zafar’s previous partnership with YRF, including Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai, were gigantic successes, his latest track record has everyone worried. His previous release, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, was both critically and financially failed, extensively panned as being among the worst films released in recent years.

With the huge hype on both Pathaan 2 and Dhoom 4, YRF’s choice of considering Zafar comes as a surprise. Pathaan 2, which is a follow-up to the ₹1,050 crore-grossing spy thriller, is a big bet as a part of YRF’s successful Spy Universe.
Likewise, Dhoom 4 has been declared as a reboot of the cult action franchise, with Ranbir Kapoor playing a villainous role and a budget of ₹250–400 crores. Both the projects require a director who is capable of providing high-octane action and gripping storytelling.

Although Zafar’s previous successes prove that he is capable of directing large-budget spectacles, his recent failure makes one question if he is capable of taking on such large-scale projects.
With YRF placing its bets high on its future slate, including these event films, the studio needs to consider Zafar’s established record versus his recent failure.
