Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condemned the brutal murder of Dheeraj Rajendran stating that the Congress leadership is justifying the killing.

He alleged that Congress politics has reached a stage of criminalisation, with many SFI activists losing their lives in colleges.

“Most of them have fallen to the murderous attack of KSU, the student wing of Congress,” he added. The Chief Minister was speaking at the inauguration of Dheeraj memorial study center at Trichambaram, Taliparamba in Kannur on Sunday (February 2, 2025).

“The Congress leadership did not distance from the murderers. Their stance remains unchanged and the right wing media is handling the issue in a despical manner, “ Mr. Vijayan said adding that anti-leftism has reached dangerous level. He also alleged that attempts to attack SFI activists are still ongoing, with efforts being made to disrupt gatherings.

The Dheeraj memorial study center built in memory of Dheeraj Rajendran, an SFI activist and student of Iddukki Painavu Engineering College. Dheeraj was stabbed to death allegedly by KSU-Congress activists in 2022. The research center constructed near his home Trichambaram, Kannur, stands besides his martyr’s tomb.

The 1,500 square meter prefabricated building was developed on land purchased near his house with former SFI activists leading the construction efforts.
