Chennai Super Kings’ opener Devon Conway has taken back his remark about the IPL 2023 Final being the “greatest win” of his career following a backlash on social media.

Conway received the Player of the Match award for his impressive knock of 47 off 25 balls in the final.

Chennai Super Kings emerged victorious in the rain-shortened match against Gujarat Titans, successfully chasing down a target of 171 runs. The team’s star all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja, played a crucial role by hitting a six and a four in the last two balls of the chase, securing a thrilling five-wicket win.

The Chennai Super Kings players, including Conway, were understandably elated and celebrated with chants and congratulations for their teammates and loved ones.

Conway’s contribution with the bat set the stage for the successful run chase by the team. Reflecting on the team’s title win, he initially considered it the “biggest win” of his career and shared his overall experience of playing with the MS Dhoni-led side.

The 31-year-old expressed gratitude towards the team management for their consistent support, which allowed him to perform at his best throughout the tournament. He also mentioned that this experience would help him prepare for the upcoming ODI World Cup, scheduled to take place in India later this year.

Devon Conway’s recent remarks about the IPL being the “biggest win” of his career have drawn criticism from fans of the New Zealand cricket team. They expressed their disappointment, pointing out that Conway seemed to rate the IPL victory higher than the team’s triumph in the ICC World Test Championship final against India in 2021, where the Kiwis emerged victorious.

Conway has now clarified his statement, stating that while the IPL win was the “best T20 win” of his career, it was not the best overall.
