A doctor was allegedly stabbed multiple times by an unidentified person at her clinic in west Delhi’s Tagore Garden Extension on Saturday.

According to Vichitra Veer, Deputy Commissioner of Police (west), the incident took place in the afternoon, when a person entered the doctor’s — Dr Sangay Bhutia — clinic and attacked her with a knife in the building’s staircase area.

Bhutia runs her clinic, ‘Hair and Senses’ on the ground floor and has her residence on the upper floors, Veer added.

After stabbing Bhutia, the attacker fled the scene. Meanwhile, following her multiple stab injuries, police said that the doctor is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

A case on the charges of attempt to murder has been registered and multiple teams have been formed to catch the accused, they added.

Initial probe has found no angles of robbery and the attacker seems to be someone familiar, however, that angle is yet to be confirmed, DCP Veer said.

Last month, a doctor was allegedly attacked by a patient in the emergency ward of south Delhi’s Safdarjung hospital. The Delhi Police registered a case of attempt to murder in connection to the case.

The FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) after Dr Rahul Kalena, a 26-year-old third-year PG student in the orthopaedic department at the hospital, lodged a complaint in the matter.

The complainant had said that on September 4, he was on duty from 9 am at ER-3 Emergency at the hospital. “At around 1.15 pm a patient approached me and asked me to remove the cannula from his hand. I advised him to seek assistance from the nursing staff. In response, he verbally abused and assaulted me physically,” alleged Kalena.

Kalena also said that the patient pulled out a screwdriver from his pocket and struck him in the neck and abdomen, leading to serious injuries.

The assailant was nabbed by the hospital’s security personnel and later was handed over to the police.

Further back in May, a 22-year-old doctor was killed by a man in Kottarakkara area of Kerala’s Kollam district. The house surgeon, Vandana Das, was stabbed to death at the taluk hospital, allegedly by a man who was brough there by police after being involved in a fight with his family members.

According to an officer of Kottarakkara police in the district, while a wound on the leg of the man — identified as Sandeep — was being dressed by doctor Vandana Das, he suddenly got provoked and attacked everyone standing there using a scissor and scalpel.
