David De Gea is continuing to impress for new club Fiorentina after finally finding a new home on the back of his Manchester United exit.

The Spaniard spent 12 seasons in Manchester before leaving at the end of his contract, having been frozen out by former manager Erik ten Hag despite winning the Golden Glove in his final season.

He was replaced by Andre Onana, and spent a year out of the game as a free agent before joining Fiorentina in the summer.

De Gea, now 33, has proven himself to be the undisputed No 1 at the club since, and impressed once again as his side beat Genoa 1-0 on Thursday evening.

He now shines in the stats tables in a number of key areas for goalkeepers in the league, showing his quality is still there after being United’s first-choice goalkeeper for so many seasons.

De Gea sits top of the save per cent table, while he is also second in the saves per 90 minutes rankings and sixth in the goals prevented table.

He has three clean sheets so far to his name this term with Fiorentina sitting fourth in Serie A.

The third clean sheet had to be earned on Thursday, with De Gea pulling off a number of stops, the most impressive when he tipped Johan Vasquez’s header over the bar.

During his time at United, he won the player of the season award four times before leaving when he and the club failed to agree terms on a new deal.

He had often spoken of his hopes of becoming a club legend, though found himself out the team early on under Sir Alex Ferguson. He would eventually regain his place and become the undisputed No 1.

The Spaniard would continue his role under David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and initially under Ten Hag.

He played the Dutchman’s first season in charge but opted not to stay at the club after talks over a new deal, with Ten Hag making it clear he would look to sign Onana.

And De Gea was seemingly pulling no punches when Ten Hag was sacked, as he posted a not-so-subtle social media message after the news broke on Monday.

He took to X to share a pinched fingers emoji, seemingly aiming a dig at his former boss.

The gesture can represent a number of different meanings, though often is given as a sign of content or joy.
