The desire to settle abroad for better jobs and education is increasing rapidly among Indian youth. This has led to various states facing a troubling trend of “ghost villages” left with just the old residents.
Dr. Cyriac Abby Philips, known as “The Liver Doc” online, recently shared a worrying story about an elderly couple struggling with technology to book medical appointments. When the doctor suggested they should consult someone young for help, the old patient admitted that there was no youngster living near them.

Their sons, like so many, had left for the Middle East. When asked what would happen in case of emergency, the couple shared they only had a grocer and a Plumber to take care of them.
This incident highlights the country’s migration crisis. States like Punjab and Kerala are suffering the most as the youth are leaving their homeland and families to settle in Canada, UK, USA, or the Middle East.

There is a lack of initiatives from the government as well. If there were better job opportunities and economic conditions provided in the country, not only more people would stay in India, but it could attract other countries’ youth as well.
Sadly, just like the old couple, there is no one to take care of the rural areas. There are family homes and streets left barren of all joy and glee.
