Dallas Cowboys respond to rumors they’ve signed Daniel Jones after his Giants release

Dallas Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones said the team has no interest in signing former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones.

Jones was released by the Giants on Friday morning by mutual consent, ending a tumultuous tenure as the team’s starting quarterback since 2019.

Minutes after Jones became a free agent, his picture appeared on the Cowboys website as an active roster member.

The page about him was quickly removed however.

Now, an official word from the organization has come down about the possible switch in NFC East teams for the former first-round draft pick.

‘No, I think we’re in good shape at our quarterback spot,’ Jones said. ‘We think Cooper (Rush) gives us the best chance to win right now. And certainly we still want to see some.

‘We’ll kind of see how the season goes here. We still really want to see (Trey) Lance and like what he brings to the table. And then, of course, long term, we all know we made our commitment to Dak (Prescott) for the long term.’

The Cowboys have had a disappointing 2024 with Dak Prescott going down to a season-ending injury a few weeks ago.

In his place, Cooper Rush has been Dallas’ starter and the team has not won without Prescott. Backing up Rush is former first-round pick Trey Lance.

Jones is looking for a fresh start after leading the Giants to one playoff appearance as the team’s starting quarterback.

Throughout his time as a Giant, Jones was widely unpopular with New York’s fan base, with him getting a few chances after missteps to continue as the team’s starter.
