Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys have agreed to a deadline deal hours before the team makes its season against the Cleveland Browns.
The veteran quarterback inked a four-year extension worth $240million to stay in Dallas – making him the highest-paid player in NFL history.
Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported that the deal will guarantee Prescott $231m. The deal was confirmed by owner Jerry Jones, his agent Tom France, and his team from Athletes First.
His new contract put Prescott significantly above his contemporaries in yearly earnings at $60m. Below him are Joe Burrow, Jordan Love, and Trevor Lawrence, who all make $55m annually.
Further down the list are Tua Tagovailoa a $53.1m, Jared Goff at $53m, Justin Herbert at $52.5m, Lamar Jackson at $52m, and Jalen Hurts at $51m.
QB Dak Prescott signed a four-year, $240million deal to remain with the Dallas Cowboys
Prescott was drafted by Dallas with the 135th pick out of Mississippi State in 2016 and has been with the Cowboys since.
So far in his career, Prescott won the Offensive Rookie of the Year, made three Pro Bowl selections, and led the NFL in passing touchdowns in 2023.
Prescott posted a league-high 410 completions and 36 touchdowns, finishing second in MVP voting behind Jackson.
His new deal keeps Prescott in Dallas through the 2028 season, his age-35 campaign. This is his second extension with the team, following a four-year $160M deal in 2021.

By re-signing Prescott, the Cowboys kept their franchise quarterback from reaching the market with incredible leverage – as he was slated to hit free agency next year.
Since Prescott’s arrival, the Cowboys have seen the postseason five times but are yet to break out of the divisional playoffs. Dallas finished with a 12-5 record last season, topping the NFC East, before losing to the Green Bay Packers in the WildCard.
