Cult Director Anurag Kashyap Shattered: 5 Films Unreleased

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has recently come forward to express his disappointment over the major delays faced by five of his films, including ‘Kennedy’. The director revealed his personal attachment to the film, revealing his helpless condition.

He blamed the profit-driven mindset of Bollywood for not releasing a film like Kennedy, which had garnered significant praise during its premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.

He said, “I have made five films that are lying unreleased. Where is Kennedy? And whose hands is Kennedy in? It’s in the hands of some people who’ve never made films before.”

Anurag highlighted the stark difference between Bollywood and the South Indian film industry regarding the empowerment of filmmakers and the celebration of true art.

His words were, “In the South, they invest in filmmakers and empower them to make films. Here, everyone is trying to create a universe. Do they understand their own universe, and how minuscule they are in it?”

The director went on to say, “I’ve detached myself from Kennedy, because I don’t want it to become like Black Friday. I will not let anything pull me down again in life. I’ve had my fights, but you can’t fight a wall. I don’t have the energy,”

Social media has been fuming over Anurag’s heartbroken confession, with users completely siding with the director. One user said, “It’s disheartening to see a visionary like Anurag Kashyap struggle to release his films. The industry needs to value creativity over profits.”

Another commented, “If a film like Kennedy, which received acclaim at Cannes, can’t find a release here, it speaks volumes about the state of our film industry.”

Although disappointed, the public is hopeful that things will sort themselves out, and that Kennedy will finally be released to the Indian audience sometime in the near future.
