The stage is being prepared for IPL 2025 as the BCCI has met the owners of the IPL franchises the other day. The owners of all the franchises in the league took part in the meeting last afternoon and several important topics came to discussion in the same.

Coming to the topic, there is a shocking trend that is emerging which is claiming that Dhoni might have a tough time being retained by CSK this year, it seems.
The existing player retention that is permitted in the IPL is four. The teams are pushing to have 5-6 retentions per side which would let them keep ahold of the key players.

However in the case of CSK, if the existing 4-spot retention continues, the chances are that Dhoni might find it hard to be retained.
The likes of Ruturaj, Jadeja, Pathirana, Shivam Dube, Conway, and others are already the front-runners for the retention spot.

In the case of Dhoni, he is struggling to hold fitness which is very understandable considering that he is over 43 now. At this point, CSK holding him at the expense of losing a backbone player is going to be a tough choice.
If BCCI permits 5-6 retentions then Dhoni would certainly find a place here in the 5th or 6th spot. Else, things could real tricky.
That being said, imagining CSK not retaining Dhoni is way out of normalcy. It has to be seen how things turn out in this year’s auction and retention phase.
