A video is circulating on social media where the Karnataka High Court judge is appalled by a wife’s demand of ₹6,16,000 per month from her husband. The lawyer representing the woman tried to explain her expenditures to the judge but was rebuked for showing exaggerated figures.
A tweet from the journalist Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj summed up the wife’s demands. As per the court clip, the wife is asking for ₹4-5 lacs for knee pain and physiotherapy. ₹15,000 for shoes and dresses, ₹60,000 for food inside the home, and a few more thousands for dining outside.

The court questioned the basis of the woman’s demands. In a hilarious turn of events, the judge even tells the lawyer, “If she wants to spend, let her earn.” The judge asked the woman to give actual figures from the lawyer instead of these “lacs of figure.”
Karnataka HC rightfully calls out the blatant misuse of Section 24. “It is not a punishment to the husband if he is having a dispute with his wife to grant 6,16,000,” the HC judge adds.

X users echoed the judge’s response asking what a single woman without any children requires ₹6 lacs for. Some users praised the female judge for passing the correct judgment instead of giving in to the woman’s demand.
