Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Ashwini Upadhyay on Saturday targeted the Congress for opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. Taking to Twitter, Ashwini Upadhyay said the protest by the Congress party is an excuse to stall the process of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) as they want to save the “infiltrators”.

“The Citizenship Amendment Bill is an excuse to stall the process of the NRC but it is not going to happen. There is nothing in the citizenship bill that can be opposed and it is not going to affect the people living in the country. Despite that, the protests by the opponents show that they want to increase the pressure on the government so that the Modi government does not bring the NRC,” Ashwini Upadhyay said.

The BJP leader further said that the Modi-led government would not stop. “The government is not going to bow down to any pressure. NRC is the truth of the country and the government will implement it,” he said.

Earlier, Ashwani Upadhyay had asked the government to enact a strong law regarding the incident of rape across the country. Ashwani Upadhyay had said, “Rapes are not going to stop. Even if one or two people get the death penalty for this, the rape incidents are not going to stop in the country.”
