NEW DELHI: Highlighting that the JD(U) which is a critical ally in the BJP led NDA govt at the Centre has just passed a resolution reiterating the demand for special category status in Central assistance to Bihar, Congress sought to know if the state’s chief minister Nitish Kumar will summon the courage to have the state cabinet also pass such a resolution.
Congress general secretary in-charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh in a post on X said, “The JD(U) has just passed a resolution reiterating demand for special category status in Central assistance to Bihar. Will the CM summon the courage to have the state Cabinet to also pass such a resolution.” “Will the CM of Bihar walk the talk?,” he asked.
“And what about TDP in its new innings? Why has it not yet passed such a resolution for Andhra Pradesh, a promise emphasised by the non-biological PM in the holy city of Tirupati on April 30, 2014,” Ramesh asked.
Ramesh also shared video snippets in the post drawing from speeches of PM Modi where he is seen assuring people of Bihar and AP assuring them of addressing and delivering on their demands and concerns.
Since the poll results came the Congress has been raising the issue of special category status for Andhra Pradesh and Bihar and how Prime Minister Narendra Modi failed to deliver on the same.
Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP and Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) have held centrestage as crucial players in govt formation with the BJP with 239 seats becoming the single largest party but falling short of the 272 mark that is needed to form govt. With its allies the BJP led NDA has 293 members in Lok Sabha. TDP has 16 and JD(U) has 12 members in Lok Sabha.
In a post on X on Bihar earlier this month after the results were declared, Ramesh had asked, “will you (Modi) give special status to Bihar as promised in 2014 and fulfill your associate Nitish Kumar’s 10 year old demand? He further asked, “will Nitish Kumar be able to raise these concerns effectively? or will Narendra Modi’s 1/3 govt fall before taking any effective steps?
