Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole has strongly criticised the BJP-led alliance for reintroducing contractual hiring in the State, accusing them of dashing the hopes of the youth. He warned that the Congress would take to the streets if the government fails to revoke the decision.
“The Congress party firmly opposes contractual hiring. We have consistently stood by the youth and will continue to do so. In the past, we had successfully opposed similar moves by the BJP alliance. Despite assurances from former Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis that contractual hiring would be stopped, recent advertisements for contractual positions in the health and MPSC departments show a breach of trust,” Mr. Patole said.
He also alleged that these contracts are often awarded to companies linked to BJP affiliates, highlighting discrepancies between the party’s promises and actions.
Delay in forming govt.
The Congress leader further criticised the government for its delay in forming a new administration despite 10 days having passed since the election results. “The State is leaderless, with the Chief Minister’s post still vacant. Meanwhile, millions of educated youth are waiting for job opportunities, but the government is prioritising contractual recruitment instead of fulfilling its promises,” he said.
Mr. Patole also expressed concerns over a recent fare hike by the Maharashtra State Transport Corporation (MSRTC) and cast doubts on the government’s commitment to fulfilling key promises such as loan waivers for farmers and assured prices for agricultural produce.
“The BJP-led alliance spoke of job creation during the election campaign but seems to have forgotten its promises. The fare hike and the return of contractual hiring signal their disregard for public welfare. We will not stay silent and are ready to protest if necessary,” he warned.
