Chelsea v West Ham LIVE: Premier League score and latest updates as Robert Sanchez dropped

Maresca on playing on deadline day and transfer latest

Chelsea can fire themselves back into the top four when they face West Ham in a Monday night Premier League outing at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues’ main aim for the season is to secure Champions League football and, though a place in the top five may do it this year, they cannot take any chances and must finish fourth or higher to guarantee a place in the European top-flight.

A win over the Hammers would take Enzo Maresca men to within four points of third but they will need to turnaround a poor run of form that has seen them win just one of their last seven league games.

Tonight they face a West Ham side who are languishing in 15th in the table with the Hammers having lost one, drawn one and won one of their three matches so far under Graham Potter.

Chelsea 0-0 West Ham

Lovely play from Palmer as he flicks a back-heel around the corner for Cucurella before receiving the one-two pass and seeing his cross put behind for a corner.

Chelsea 0-0 West Ham

Plenty of high pressing from the visitors so far, but nothing Chelsea haven’t been able to deal with.

Sancho has his first run at Wan-Bissaka and works the space for a cross, but Coufal clears.

Chelsea 0-0 West Ham

Good running from Bowen to get the visitors forward, but the chance ends when Soucek commits a foul when trying to latch on to the captain’s cutback.

Chelsea 0-0 West Ham

Chelsea with plenty of the ball in the opening exchanges. The hosts are just feeling their way into the game in possession.

Jackson gets forward and into the box but his attempted shot is easily blocked.

Potter: “I had some good times and special nights there”

In his own press conference, former Chelsea manager Graham Potter said that he “had some good times and special nights” with the Blues.

“I wish them well as a club, I’m thankful to them because it was part of my journey. But I’m here now – I’m delighted with that. I’m looking forward to seeing some friends and playing the game.”

On facing the Blues, he added: “They are a tactically well-prepared team, Enzo has done a great job with that, and they’ve done a great job as a club in terms of stabilising and rejuvenating the squad.

“It’s a tough game – they’re competing to be in the Champions League. We have to play to the strengths we have and we go there with optimism, encouragement and enthusiasm.”

Head-to-head

These two sides have faced off a total of 109 times in the past, with Chelsea winning 47, West Ham winning 40 and 22 ending as draws.

Earlier this season, Chelsea beat a hapless West Ham side 3-0 at the London Stadium, with the Blues winning 5-0 in May of last season too.

The last time the Hammers beat Chelsea was in August 2023, when they ran out 3-1 winners at home.

Maresca: “We need a response”

In his pre-match press conference, Enzo Maresca told the media that his side need a response to last week’s result against Man City.

“We need a good performance to try to win the game, but not because it’s after the City game – it’s because we try to always do the same. It would be a good moment to get three points, especially at home.

“In all the games, we’ve had chances to score. We’ve struggled with results but the performances have been there. In some games, the performance has not been there for 95-100 minutes, which you need.

“The big difference in the past games has been inside the box. We’ve conceded goals we can avoid and not scored goals that in different moments we will score.”

On tonight’s opponents, he added: “I have watched the games with Graham in charge and you can see they try to be very aggressive. It will be a tough game, like always.”
