Chandrababu Naidu Anna Canteen Gudivada

The government of Andhra Pradesh is set to restart the Anna Canteens across the state beginning August 15, coinciding with Independence Day.

100 Anna Canteens will be launched in the first phase on August 15. On that day, Chandrababu Naidu will be visiting Gudivada in Krishna district, where he will inaugurate an Anna Canteen.

Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Ponguru Narayana held discussions with officials regarding the reopening of the Anna Canteens. These canteens will operate at full capacity starting August 16.

Meanwhile, Minister Narayana visited the Akshaya Patra kitchen located in Atmakuru village, Mangalagiri Mandal, to review the food distribution arrangements for the Anna Canteens.

Speaking at the venue, Narayana highlighted that during the TDP government’s tenure from 2014-19, meals were provided at just Rs. 5. He noted that around 4.60 crore meals were served during that period.

He criticized the YSR Congress Party for shutting down the Anna Canteens immediately after coming into power in 2019.

Narayana announced that the initiative is being relaunched to once again serve the people. He stated that Akshaya Patra has been contracted to handle food distribution for the Anna Canteens. He lauded the organisation for maintaining kitchens cleanly and with a hygienic environment.

The government plans to establish 200 canteens in villages and 180 in cities. Narayana assured that most of these Anna Canteens would be set up near hospitals and markets, where they could serve the poor more effectively.
