Chandrababu Naidu Scraps "Garbage Tax" In Andhra Pradesh

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu made a key statement. He said that the garbage tax would be cancelled with immediate effect.

Naidu made this announcement at the Swatchathe Seva program in Machilipatnam earlier today. He instructed all officials not to collect garbage tax from now on.

Remembering Gandhi on his birth anniversary, Chandrababu Naidu said that on the same day in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi started the revolutionary “Swatch Bharat” initiative.

Naidu said, “I was the chairman of the sub-committee that was formed on Swatch Bharat in NITI Aayog. I started the initiative of creating wealth from the garbage. We have constructed more than 2 lakh toilet facilities and also transformed Andhra Pradesh into an Open Defecation Free (ODF) state.”

He accused the previous YCP government of mismanaging every department. He said due to YCP’s poor governance, more than 85 lakh metric tonnes of waste have been accumulated in the state.

“I ordered Minister Narayana to clean up the mess within a year. We have to aim for ‘Swachh Andhra Pradesh’ by 2029. Everyone should contribute towards this goal and ensure to make the state is garbage-free,” Chandrababu Naidu added.
