35 Chinna Katha Kaadu

Rana Daggubati is the Presenter of 35 – Chinna Katha Kadhu. The movie is one of the best films released this year and is winning accolades from critics as well as the audience. Rana is being appreciated for backing a small but beautiful film.

But then, there is more than what the eye meets in this story.

The director Nanda Kishore first approached Suresh Productions (Rana’s Spirit Media) compound with this story and had a significant journey there.

But then, as with the case of many scripts in Suresh Compound, the process was never-ending.

It was a film of about five Crore Budget but they let go of it citing over-budget.

That is when Srujan of S Originals came in and took it over. The movie was completed with around 6.5 Crore Budget.

He then approached Rana once again to have his name as the Presenter. Rana with his connections finalized the non-theatrical business of the film. It is rumored that they made around 7 Crore from that.

Rana makes 20% of it, which means 1.5 Crore from the sale of the non-theatrical biz.

Leaving aside the Presenter business, it is to be noted that Suresh Productions did not produce the film.

It is understandable why Suresh Babu reduced producing films. Film Business especially in medium and big-budget films has become a gamble. The stakes are very high and so, Suresh Productions is not making films anymore.

But films like 35 increase the respect of a production house. It is how you carry the legacy of the legendary Ramanaidu.

Ramanaidu Studios can not be a business offering shooting and post-production facilities.

35 was supposed to be a less than five-crore budget film. A seasoned player like Suresh Productions may have done it on a lesser budget using their experience.

Rana would have still sold the non-theatrical biz for a good amount. In the worst case, the risk may be 2-3 Crore.

Given the legacy of Ramanaidu and Suresh Productions, the 2-3 Crore risk should be nothing when compared to the respect the production house would have got for producing a good film like this.

The cautious approach even for small but good films like this would be a big disservice to Ramanaidu’s legacy.
