You dream of visiting your aging parents, but fear holds you back – the fear of not being able to return, once you leave. This is the reality for many Indians who are based in the US, and like these many Indians who are feeling stuck , there’s one Texas resident on an H1B visa who is stuck in the painful limbo between their responsibilities at home and the uncertainty of his immigration status.
Since arriving in Oct 2022, he hasn’t left the country, not because they don’t want to, but because the fear of visa stamping denial looms large. His I-94 is valid until Sept 2025, and while his H1B status remains secure, the visa stamp in his passport expired in August 2023. That stamp, though seemingly a small detail, has become a gatekeeper, deciding whether they can return to the life they’ve built in the U.S. or be forced to stay abroad.

This man took social media to share his concern, “I really want to see my parents – they’re getting older.” But his family in the U.S. keeps warning him that traveling abroad might lead to trouble. If his visa stamping is denied at the consulate or they face issues at the port of entry, they might be stuck outside the U.S., losing their job and everything he worked for.
Immigration experts say it’s important to be extra careful before traveling. Even if your H1B status is still valid, without a valid visa stamp, re-entering the U.S. can be risky. There are options like automatic revalidation or drop-box visa stamping, but they don’t work for everyone and still carry uncertainties.
