As per psychologists at the University of Glasgow, staring at an optical illusion can improve eyesight by simply looking at a small print.

Experts discovered that the visual acuity and ability to see fine details can be further enhanced by the expanding motion after-effect, an illusion which can help people view and read letters that are in general too small to be read normally. To check this, researchers decided to test the visual acuity of 74 people. This was done by using a classic eye chart found in an optician’s room where letters are written in different sizes per row.
Researchers then showed the participants an illusion of a spiral rotating clockwise or anti-clockwise for 30 seconds. After this, they were shown the chart again and it was discovered that those who saw the clockwise rotation which seemed like the image is moving towards oneself experienced better visual acuity for a brief period. They were able to read the smaller letters well – those who saw the anti-clockwise illusion experienced the opposite.
Researchers also associated the same with initial ability – the harder people find a task at the start, the more likely is the illusion to help them. However, these positive results and effects are mostly short-lived.
What are the best optical illusions?
German experts say that the way one views a hollow mask video illusion could be instrumental in schizophrenia diagnosis. Someillusions can also help doctors diagnose autism.
