Ajith Kumar’s highly anticipated Vidaamuyarchi, directed by Magizh Thirumeni, is all set for a grand worldwide release on February 6th. This marks the first big-ticket release for Kollywood in 2025 and the most awaited Tamil film after Suriya’s Kanguva.
Kanguva was positioned as a game-changer for Kollywood, with the team hyping it as a true pan-Indian spectacle and even predicting it to be the first ₹1000 crore grosser for Tamil cinema.

However, upon release, the film turned into a massive troll fest, failing to meet expectations and closing with collections not even touching ₹200 crore. This underperformance not only disappointed fans but also dealt a significant blow to Kollywood’s pan-Indian ambitions.
Now, all eyes are on Vidaamuyarchi, the next major release. While it hasn’t been marketed as a pan-Indian film, its success within Tamil Nadu could restore faith in big-budget Tamil movies.

Unlike Kanguva, which had grand nationwide aspirations, Vidaamuyarchi is expected to perform strongly in its home territory, and if it becomes a blockbuster, it could bring back goodwill for Kollywood’s big ventures.
With massive expectations surrounding Vidaamuyarchi, the big question remains: Can Ajith Kumar deliver a solid hit and erase the disappointment left by Kanguva? The answer will be revealed on February 6th.
