The other day, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy announced Botsa Satyanarayana as the candidate for the upcoming Vishakapatnam Local Bodies MLC Election.

The By-election was necessitated due to the disqualification of sitting MLC Vamsi Krishna Srinivas who jumped from YSR Congress to Janasena just before the elections.
YSR Congress has a huge lead in the voters of Visakha local bodies. There are 841 voters out of which 615 are from YSR Congress. TDP has only 215 votes.

The TDP boycotted the 2020 elections at that time. However, in many areas, the party’s fans and leaders contested and won.
But then, it will be a different ball game altogether with YSR Congress no longer in power. TDP can win if it takes this election prestigiously.

Also, the choice of the candidate seems to be a blunder.
Botsa hails from Vizianagaram district and he is not even a voter of the local bodies in Vishakapatnam.
Similarly, Jagan fielded a non-local in Botsa’s wife for the Parliament elections and we have seen people reject her.
Moreover, YSR Congress rank and file themselves are not happy about Jagan rubbing other district leaders on them.
YSR Congress leaders of Vishakapatnam district – Budi Muthyala Naidu, Gudivada Amar, Kola Guruvulu, Pasupuleti Balaraju, Suryanarayana Raju, Chintalapudi Venkatramaiah, and Petla Uma Shankar Ganesh themselves expected the ticket.
Now, they are expected to cross-vote for TDP. And then, there are many who will naturally tide towards the Ruling Party.
Moreover, this will send a wrong signal that Jagan is continuing to rub non-locals on the people of Vishakapatnam.
In the recent election, Botsa’s family was given five tickets and all of them lost.
Botsa wants to be the Leader of the Opposition in the Council. But that means grabbing the position from Lella Appireddy who was given recently and ignoring others who were seniors in the council. Moreover, even if Botsa wins, he will be a very uninspiring leader and a terrible speaker to lead the Opposition in the house.
But then, Jagan believes Botsa can spend a lot of money in case needed so opted for him.
